Hay fever is characterized by an allergic reaction to pollen. The allergic reaction occurs especially in seasons with an increased amount of wind borne pollen. Patients suffering from hay fever are thus most affected in the spring months. Symptoms of hay fever are characterized by a clogged nose, a clear runny nose, sneezing, irritated eyes and nose, tearing eyes, and red eyes. Hay fever may be treated with antihistamines and other medication, avoiding areas with a high level of wind borne pollen, allergy desensitization, acupuncture, and Homoeopathy.
