Ankylosing Spondylitis is a form of arthritis, affecting joints and the spine. The chronic inflammatory disease has strong genetic associations and causes pain, stiffness and, in extreme cases, bones fusing together. AS has the potential to disturb other parts of the body as well; the heart, eyes, lungs and kidneys are at risk, too. Treatments include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), corticosteroids, surgery, physical therapy, heat therapy, relaxation (massage, meditation), acupuncture and yoga.
