Dysentery is a colon infection or inflammation. Dysentery is caused by a bacteria that enters the body via spoiled food or water, or through an exchange with an infected person. Amoebic dysentery is caused by a tiny parasite called an amoeba and symptoms of all of the above include stomach pain, bloody or mucousy diarrhea, vomiting, fever, rectal pain, and nausea. Dysentery will usually subside spontaneously, but treatment options include antibiotics, drug therapy, replenishing fluids and salts, Ayurveda, homoeopathy, acupuncture, and herbal therapies.
