Cardiovascular is the term that refers to the heart and blood vessels, encompassing the circulatory system. When this system isn’t working correctly, cardiovascular disease occurs. Such diseases include ischemic strokes, heart failure, heart attack, arrhythmias and heart valve problems, many of which arise due to a process where plaque hardens the walls of the arteries. This is known as arteriosclerosis. Mainstream treatments include medication and surgery, while complementary treatments include stress management, oxygen therapy, traditional Chinese medicine, acupressure, acupuncture, chelation therapy, diet and nutrition therapy, herbal medicine, reflexology and yoga.
