Bronchiolitis occurs when the small airways to the lungs (the bronchioles) become inflamed. Most commonly, a virus contracted by children under the age of two causes bronchiolitis. However, anyone can be affected. Symptoms include a runny nose, sneezing, coughing, high fever, increased breathing, wheezing, and respiratory distress. Treatments for bronchiolitis include fluid intake, humidifier and supplemental oxygen.
