Animal Therapy combines many modalities to offer a form of healing for animals using only natural, non-invasive, drug-free methods, with an emphasis upon prevention. Various therapies, such as Naturopathy, Herbal Medicine, Homeopathy, Flower Essences, Mineral Therapy, Massage, Aromatherapy, Detox Therapy, Nutrition, Kinesiology, Iridology and others may be used. Naturopaths use any or all of the above modalities, as required for the condition being treated. Other Animal Therapists may specialise in one or more modalities, with the emphasis upon preventative treatment being paramount.
Animals are natural Herbalists, often eating particular herbs in the garden when needed. Herbs can be used to treat a wide range of conditions including immune disorders, digestive problems, nervous conditions, infections, inflammation, liver and heart problems, internal and external parasites, urinary and kidney disorders.
Homeopathic remedies are non-toxic for all animals, including newborns and may be safely used during pregnancy. They can also be used for treating a wide range of ailments such as skin conditions, cataracts, nervousness, joint, muscle and ligament injuries, intestinal worms, before & after surgery, vaccination side effects, during pregnancy and labour, for aggression, and liver, kidney and heart problems.
Flower Essences are excellent for emotional and behavioural conditions. They can be beneficial for dogs that are overly dominant or submissive, to help overcome fears, nervousness, hyperactivity, for separation anxiety and grieving, or for animals that have been subjected to past traumas or abuse. These remedies are also totally non-toxic and safe for pregnant animals and newborns.
Aromatherapy oils may be combined and diluted to use externally to repel biting insects, to soothe inflamed or irritated skin, for muscular aches & pains or as an antiseptic. They can also be used by diffusion into the atmosphere for coughs and respiratory conditions or to relieve stress and anxiety.
Nutrition plays a major role in the treatment and prevention of most diseases that pets suffer from. The use of commercial foods (including prescription diets) is a major contributor to ill health and lowered immunity in domestic pets. An Animal Therapist will examine the animal's diet and change it where necessary, with an emphasis on a preservative free diet.
Minerals are essential for life but if a deficiency or excess exists, diseased states may develop and go undetected for years before symptoms start to appear. Hair mineral analysis is the most effective method of testing for nutrient & toxin levels in the body. This is a painless, non-invasive test using a small amount of hair to scientifically analyse the mineral levels in the body.
Fasting and Detox Therapy can be highly beneficial for eliminating toxins and impurities from the body. These toxins build-up in the body over time and contribute to chronic and acute health conditions such as skin disorders, allergies and weakened immune function.
Other dignostic tools used include Iridology which can indicate weaknesses in specific body organs or tissues, often before any symptoms are evident; and Kinesiology often used to diagnose allergies and intolerances.
Animal Therapy involves treating the whole animal, rather than just suppressing the symptoms, to improve overall health, wellbeing and longevity. Animals generally respond extremely well to natural therapies as there is no undesirable side effects.
