Tooth decay is also known as dental caries, which is a disease of the hard structures of the teeth caused by various bacteria. The resulting damage is called a cavity. Symptoms of tooth decay include a toothache – especially after sweet, hot or cold food or drinks, visible putting or holes in the teeth, bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth, and pain in the advanced stages. Treatment options include fillings, crowns, root canals, pain-relievers, homoeopathy, and preventative practices such as good dental hygiene and regular dental visits.
