Silicosis is a lung disease caused by prolonged exposure to silica (quartz) dust. Symptoms include shortness of breath, fever, chest pain, exhaustion, dry cough, and asthma or other breathing difficulties. As silicosis is irreversible, the goal is to treat the symptoms. This may include medication, oxygen therapy, and avoiding lung irritants such as cigarettes.
