Retinitis Pigmentosa

Retinitis pigmentosa is a disease of the eye resulting from the degeneration of the photoreceptor cells in the retina. Peripheral vision and night vision is lost, then severe tunnel vision occurs, and then the disease results in blindness. Symptoms include decreased vision at night or in lower light levels, a loss of peripheral vision, and a loss of central vision. There is unfortunately no cure but treatment options include vitamin A, occupational therapy, and sunglasses to limit the exposure to UV light.
