Haemochromatosis refers to a genetic disorder where the patient stores and absorbs an excessive amount of iron in the body. This may imply the damage and weakness of several organs, most importantly the heart and the liver. The disorder tends to affect men more frequently than women. Haemochromatosis is treated with frequent bloodletting, dietary monitoring, chelation therapy, and by omitting alcohol consumption.
