Gonorrhoea is a bacterial infection that becomes sexually transmitted. The infection is caused by the bacterium named Neisseria Gonorrhoeae. The infection may be difficult to discover without inoculation as only about half of women and thirty percent of men show no symptoms. However, if present, men’s symptoms may be characterized by a burning sensation during urination, and a limited amount of discharge that first may appear as mucous until becoming more substantial. If left untreated inflammation of the testicles and prostate gland may occur. In women, symptoms may appear as painful urination and discharge, abdominal pain, fever, and inflammation in the sexual organs that may involve the closure of the fallopian tubes, which is known as pelvic inflammatory disease. The infection may also lead to throat infections. Gonorrhoea is treated with antibiotics
