Giardiasis is a designation of a protozoan parasitic infection that affects the small intestine. The parasite is spread by contaminated water and by faecal-oral contact. Patients infected by giardiasis may experience diarrhea, weight loss, cramps, fatigue, bloating, gas/flatulence, and nausea. Giardiasis can be treated medically. Fluid replacement and herbal remedies may also be included in the treatment.
