Coeliac disease is a common digestive disorder that impairs the small intestine, disturbing its ability to properly absorb certain substances. Coeliacs (or, people with coeliac disease) are gluten intolerant, meaning they cannot ingest the protein found in most grains. If they do, they become bloated, flatulent, nauseous, tired and/ or constipated. Other general symptoms include diarrhea, anemia, stunted growth and vomiting. The only cure, per se, is eliminating gluten from the diet, though corticosteroids, and treatment for nutritional deficiencies can help the healing process.
