Acne is a common skin disorder that encompasses inflammation, blackheads, whiteheads, clusters of pinheads or pimples. Hormones, oil-producing glands, genetics and contact with foreign substances are common causes, and some research suggests that dietary and psychological factors also lead to breakouts. Acne can occur anywhere on the body, but most commonly the face, neck, chest, back and shoulders. Treatments include over the counter or prescription medicine, cleansers and lotions, herbal medicine, vitamin supplements, massage and stress reduction techniques.
