Check out These 4 New Food Trends to Try
Food, like fashion, has trends. And with the rise of social media and users snapping every meal they tuck into, it’s no wonder chefs are constantly striving to produce the latest culinary craze. Here are 4 new food trends you might like to sample – and snap, of course:
1. Good gut foods
One of the biggest food trends for 2018-19 is undeniably fermented foods. They’re good for the gut – which is a big bonus – and add a little sour touch to your plate.
This year’s must-trys include kimchi, kombucha, kefir, tempeh, miso, apple cider vinegar (we know, it’s been around for eons!) and other pickled, preserved and fermented foods.
2. Better bee pollen
We’re facing a global bee shortage, but that isn’t stopping foodies from sprinkling bee pollen onto their toast, doughnuts and even ice cream!
While the verdict is still out in the scientific community on whether bee pollen has its reported health benefits, many people swear by its potent mix of minerals, vitamins, lipids, protein, carbohydrates, enzymes, amino acids and antioxidants – making it an immunity booster and energy aid. Just be warned: only eat if you don’t have an allergy.
3. Farro and away
Quinoa has been top of the trends for a while now, so it’s only natural that a new grain is taking centre stage. And this year, it’s farro. The ancient grain looks a lot like rice, and is just as versatile. Pop it in a salad, soup, or as a rice replacement.
4. Hello, Hawaii
Poke (po-kay) bowls has been normal fare in Hawaii for a long time now, but they’ve recently reached other parts of the world. And it’s easy to see why. They’re easy to tweak to your liking, can be filled with all sorts of goodness like avocado, salmon, rice and veggies, and are great for people who can’t stomach sushi.
So keep your eyes peeled for these top foods trends for this year and next. And if you’re feeling adventurous, why not give them a try?
