SERVICES
Hi! I am a South African immigrant who has lived in NZ for more than 10 years and thoroughly enjoy it here. In South Africa I qualified as a doctor and worked as a general practitioner and in oncology for several years but I am not registered as a doctor in NZ and have never practiced medicine here.
I retrained as a narrative counsellor at Waikato University and very much enjoy my new field of work. In fact I enjoy it so much I went on to complete a post-graduate certificate in supervision, also at Waikato University. I have until recently been involved in counsellor education, coordinating and teaching in a diploma level programme.
I have a special interest in depression and anxiety and in the difficulties and problems experienced by immigrants as they make the transition to living in New Zealand. I can help people with difficult life decisions, assist with motivation for life changes, weight loss or eating disorders. I work with adults and teenagers, with individuals or couples and families.
Because I am a Narrative trained counsellor, part of my work involves helping people to see themselves as separate from the problems in their lives and able to take steps to resist the problem's power. For example I understand that people may live with depression but it is not the definition of who the person is. If you are finding it difficult to cope with problems in your life I would love to collaborate with you in overcoming them. You can contact me by email or phone call and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
