Our Treatments
Acupuncture is a healing art that has been honed by physicians for over two thousand years. Focused on assisting the body’s own life force ‘Qi’ to restore balance, aid recovery and restore health, it is one of the most commonly used treatments throughout China and South East Asia. Acupuncture encourages the body to promote natural healing and to improve body function. During the past few decades, acupuncture has gained tremendous popularity in Western cultures, becoming a prefered treatment for many. In New Zealand, acupuncture is so highly regarded that it has become one of ACC's foremost treatments for physical rehabilitation. Acupuncture has been clinically proven to be effective in reducing or eliminating the need to take drugs to control pain or symptoms arising from illness or injury. In addition to pain relief, it is also helpful in treating anxiety, insomnia, digestive problems, the common cold, menstrual problems, weight control, infertility and much, much more.
Massages/Mobile Treatments Massage Therapy is essential for maintaining the well being of our health, especially beyond the age of 35 years old. Every profession has its occupational hazards. Office workers and commercial drivers (e.g. truck/taxi/bus drivers) have a hard time with their neck, shoulders and back from sitting too long. Alternatively, manual labourer/professional athletes/body builders commonly suffer from repetitive strain injuries (RSI) or chronic muscle tension build up which are prone to pain and injury. We promote and educate patients/clients to do daily self-massage and come to us once weekly/fortnightly/monthly for a more thorough massage treatment.
Physiotherapy Rehabilitation As a private practice physiotherapist, my job is to assess and treat any musculoskeletal injuries either acute or chronic. Your family doctor/ general practitioner’s (GP) duty is to assess you for any severe life-threatening illness such as cancer and malaise and decide whether to refer you to the hospital. If you only have muscle injuries then your doctor will refer you to us for treatments. Physiotherapist work with the soft tissues of the body (e.g. muscles, tendons, ligaments, etc) to help heal and strengthen these structures that allow you to move. Physiotherapy treatments include patient education, acute management and exercise rehabilitation. If need be, the physiotherapist will refer you onto your doctor or a specialist if conventional treatments do not help.
Trad. Chinese Acupuncture Acupuncture is based on the theory of Qi. Qi is the vital substance that animates the human body and keeps all of its systems and organs functioning properly. Qi circulates in the body through a system of channels (the meridians) which connect internal organs and tissues. When Qi in the body is abundant and flowing freely, one thrives. Conversely, illnesses arise when one’s Qi is depleted or obstructed. Very fine sterile stainless needles are inserted into the body at carefully selected points to stimulate the body’s own healing processes. By stimulating certain points (called acupoints) of the body surface where meridians reach, the flow of Qi and blood can be regulated, and diseases treated, with very few side effects.
Suction Cup Therapy Cups are placed at specific locations on the patient's skin. Because of the vacuum created inside the cup, the patient's skin then rises up inside the cup. This encourages blood flow to the area to enhance healing, loosen muscles and sedate the nervous system. Discoloration vary from light pink to dark purple (blood stasis) and will disappear within a few days.
Scraping Therapy Gua Sha treatments are not painful. As the body is scraped it pushes a build-up of fluid ahead of it, and after it passes, it leaves an indentation or vacuum behind which draws toxic fluid out to the surface of the skin from deep within the tissue. The toxic fluid (Sha), floods to the surface and can be seen in small red or deep purple pools of blood, it is also often hot on the area that the toxic heat is extracted.
Hot/Cold Therapy for Legs/Feet Our legs get very tight and painful due to prolonged standing (retail, customer service, etc) or sitting (long flight, taxi/bus/truck drivers, office workers etc) which causes blood to pool to the legs and feet as the result of gravity. This hot/cold therapy followed by meridial deep tissue oil massage will leave your legs feeling lighter and more relaxed. Additional acupuncture can further enhance the peripheral circulation. Bring a friend and you get a 50% discount. Free for children 5 years or younger when accompanied with an Adult
