A simple, consistent yoga and meditation practice will alleviate the negative effects of stress on the body and mind and bring you back to your authentic self without the need to pop a pill or go on a two week holiday!
Yoga Coaching
I offer one-on-one personalised yoga coaching where I work with you to develop an individualised asana and meditation practice that you can feel confident to practice at home, independently. Sessions offer a full spectrum approach to yoga as a lifestyle, starting with a physical practice on the mat. Yoga will cultivate strength in your muscles, joints and even the bones, while at the same creating more suppleness as you release holding patterns in your connective tissues (fascia). By letting go of physical tension through yoga asanas (postures), you will discover a new-found freedom in your movement. Furthermore, breath work and basic mindfulness techniques will be covered to reduce stress. I have worked with clients facing a range of challenges including back pain, sciatica, recovery from injury, migraines, facing a change, identifying life purpose or coping with grief.
Pre Natal/Post Natal Yoga Coaching
I have coached many woman through their pregnancies and beyond to post birth. As woman, pregnancy, child birth and the early months of motherhood can be some of the most incredible but challenging times of our lives. A consistent yoga and meditation practice can help to relieve stress and prepare the body to cope with these often overwhelming changes. If you have a particular health issue around your pregnancy then practising yoga in a group class might not be appropriate. Working alongside your other health care providers, through one-on-one coaching I can design a safe practice for your body and baby. By developing a consistent yoga and meditation practice, many of my clients go on to enjoy a natural healthy birth. Postnatally I support my clients with restorative yoga and meditation techniques to relieve the stress of living with a new born baby! I also work to support and heal the pelvic floor muscles.
Group Classes
If you're interested to learn more about the style of yoga I teach, please join me for one of my group asana classes which will be held from Tuesday 13/10/15 to 17/12/15 at The Workshop, Hinemoa St Birkenhead, Tuesdays 7pm, Thursdays 6pm and Monday Wholefoods Cafe, New North Road Kingsland, Wednedays 10.15am. Drop in classes are $22 each or their are concession cards available for purchase directly on my website.
Teacher
Kate Southward has been practicing, studying and loving yoga for ten years. After finishing school in Hawkes Bay, Kate studied English Literature and Film Studies at Victoria University in Wellington and then went on to teach in schools in New Zealand and the UK. Although she enjoyed working with children, teaching was not able to totally fulfil her yearning to help individuals enjoy optimum wellbeing and live their dreams. In 2011 Kate returned to Sydney, Australia and studied with the esteemed Australian yoga teaching guru, Mark Breadner where she received 500YTT Yoga Alliance certification. Since then Kate has gone on to assist, teach and study with some of the best yoga teachers locally and abroad, including Shiva Rea, Baron Baptiste and Tom Knowles. A professional, caring and respectful teacher, Kate is skilled at reading her clients needs and desire and creating practises and techniques to help them achieve their goals.
Location
Sessions are held at Kate's home based yoga studio, 20 Seaview Ave, Northcote Point 0627 - just a ten minute drive from Ponsonby/Kingsland. There is ample parking available.
