Kerry specialises in musculoskeletal problems and has an in depth knowledge in the treatment of chronic and acute pain, joint injuries and stress.
WELCOME Combining Chinese medical theory with an understanding of western physiology Kerry uses acupuncture, gentle manual treatments and Qigong to unwind and release tension from the different tissues of the body. Kerry also has a wide experience in treating internal organ problems, including digestive, breathing, urinary and menstrual problems to name but a few.
Kerry treats all his patients holistically and sees the body as a 3 dimensional structure; a combination of mind, body and spirit. All aspects contribute to the whole and to health, and all can be addressed through his approach.
Trained martial artists, dancers and athletes, among others, seek out his professional treatment for all types of injuries, as well as for help in maintaining everyday and peak body performance levels.
WHAT DO I DO? Chinese Medicine has been shown to be effective in treating a wide variety of conditions.
I have been practicing since 2005. I am trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine; this includes Acupuncture, Tuina and Qigong. I have trained with different Osteopaths and have learnt many techniques of Myofascial, Visceral and Ligamentous release from them since 2006.
Acupuncture is the insertion of fine ultra sharp and ultra smooth needles into the body. This produces a therapeutic effect in the body, some would say, by directly stimulating the nervous system of the body sending a message into the body that change is needed.
Tuina is Chinese Manual Therapy. This involves massage and manipulations to correct structural and internal organ problems. Tuina also involves acupressure and reflexology so if you have an aversion to needles they are not necessary for a treatment.
Qigong has two main parts, exercise and external Qi therapy. I can give exercises for therapeutic purposes and I also do external Qi therapy where I direct Qi into the patient. This is similar to Reiki.
Myofascia is the muscles and fascial system. We all know what muscles are, the structures that through contraction nd relaxation create comement at joints. Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds muscles and every other structure in our body. It is the tissue that holds us together. Everything in the body is connected through the fascial system.
Visceral Manipulation is the direct manipulation and release of the internal organs. Tension is assessed and any tension is released helping to return the function of the internal organs to normal. This is a form of myofascial work.
All of these or some of these techniques may be used during a treatment depending on the individual needs of the person.
Other ideas are often discussed with a view to bringing a new relationship between the mind and body.
I generally treat for fourty five minutes to one hour but for the first treatment this may run a bit longer time permitting.
Generally the first part of the treatment involves an assessment that may be a physical structural evaluation, motion testing, tension and spring testing and some questioning.
The treatment will involve any appropriate techniques that will work on the areas of concern found in the examination.
Following treatment some Qigong exercises may be given to help maintain and compound the treatment effect.
TESTIMONIALS I’m always impressed with the way Kerry’s treatments work on not just joints or muscles, but also other elements which affect the healing process, mind, lifestyle, posture.
He’s a no-nonsense sort of guy, who expects me to take an active part in my own recovery. Highly recommended.

In the 20+ years after a rotator cuff injury, I’d pretty much resigned myself to a shoulder that was weak, atrophied and gave me times of significant pain especially when bumped or while sleeping. My only wish was less pain. Then I got Frozen Shoulder and I went to see an Orthopaedic surgeon who recommended steroid injections, and to the ultrasound where the tech said to get ready for surgery. Instead, luckily, I found Kerry. I went to a couple months of treatments. Now over 9 months later my shoulder hasn’t been better. I am kayaking, going to yoga, and my shoulder muscles have returned. To say I’m thrilled is an understatement. Kerry is professional, knowledgeable and treats the entire body not just the specific symptom. I highly recommend him.

I have been seeing Kerry regularly for over a year now. He is without a doubt one of the most skilled and sensitive practitioners I have received treatment from. His blend of specialist understanding of the body combined with intuitive awareness skills has facilitated deep and permanent change in my body. For me, Kerry’s approach and philosophy is supportive and nourishing at physical, emotional and energetic levels. As a dancer and body worker, I trust my body in the hands of Kerry to work consciously with any imbalances in my mind/body connection.

To write something without emotion about Kerry is impossible so here goes:
When my life fell apart after a serious assault Kerry worked tirelessly to help me.
He not only did he heal me on a physical level, he taught me to heal myself, to care about me, this was the most important part.
At times it was one step forward 2 back, but his calm and loving nature soothed me and helped me focus.
I cannot find adequate words to express my gratitude to Kerry and for the rest of my life i will have 100% trust in his healing ability.
I recommend him very very highly

Kerry’s goal is always to get you back on your feet as soon as possible. On both occasions when Kerry treated me for sport injuries, I was out and about again after only couple of visits. Humble, responsible and skillful, I cannot recommend Kerry enough.

Centering & Grounding Workshop with Kerry Castell-Spence, Saturday 13th April, 2013, Auckland
I have been a student of yoga for many years and also received teachings from a spiritual master for over 14 years (meditation & Dzogchen) attending a number of retreats; additionally I have trained as a massage practitioner & in other therapeutic modalities. I currently work in a very busy & often stressful corporate role within marketing, events / administration. I found Kerry’s workshop to be thoroughly practical, logical & unpretentious. He delivered this two hour workshop with an ease and clarity which I felt made everyone feel engaged and comfortable. Personally, I felt immediate benefits and relevant advice and ‘new information’ that will benefit my daily life and practices. Thank you kindly! I really look forward to future workshops :0)
