I have been counselling since 2004.
Prior to my counselling studies, I worked 14 years in Mental Health at MidCentral Health Palmerston North / child care assistant / home executive / and 14 years as a Freezing Worker.
I have five children – almost 10 grand children. So, you can see there is varied life experience and world views.
I work from a Kaupapa Maori Framework, which incorporates an holistic approach in utilizing main stream and Kaupapa Maori models.
Model most used is Te Whare Tapa Wha, which looks at Taha Wairua / Taha Hinengaro / Taha Tinana /Taha Whanau – exploring these aspects of self to find balance.
I work at the client’s pace as they seek to find a balance that they are comfortable with.
I work from a Kaupapa Maori stance – utilizing Maori models of health – Te Whare Tapa Wha / and Whakawhirinakitanga Ahua as my guiding principles along with Theoretical Models from Main Stream e.g. Narrative / Motivational Interviewing / Cognitive Behavioural Approaches
I incorporate my learnings within an holistic approach to create a safe environment for tangata to explore their own personal reasons for attending appointments.
