Yoga is suitable for everyone – including beginners, seniors, pregnant women and those with injuries. Don’t think you’re too stiff or too old for yoga! We adapt yoga to your needs so you get the most from it.
We also run yoga teacher training courses (seven months part-time and one-month intensive) and many workshops and retreats. Please see our website for details.

OUR TEACHERS
Swami Shantimurti Saraswati
A former director of Satyananda Ashram NZ, Shantimurti has over 35 years experience in the science of yoga. He was initiated into sannyasa in 1976 by Satyananda Paramahansa from Bihar School of Yoga, India. He has trained sannyasins, yoga teachers and students plus established city and rural yoga centres, throughout Australia, NZ and Fiji. He is currently senior teacher at Ashram Yoga, Parnell and travels throughout NZ and overseas conducting courses on the yogic sciences and techniques.
A Yoga Alliance 500 hours experienced registered teacher.
Atma Okan
Is also a director of Ashram Yoga. She began learning and studying yoga while living in the Satyananda Ashram as a teenager. She has been teaching for 15 years and is an enthusiastic and popular yoga teacher. Kirtan and chanting are an aspect of yoga she loves. Now a mother, Atma manages her family and Ashram Yoga. She contributes her long experience and deep knowledge to the teacher training courses. She has a deep respect for how yoga leads one into greater awareness of themselves.

Danielle Gleitman (aka Dee)
Began her path into holistic healing attaining a 3-year Shiatsu Practioner diploma. Danielle trained in the UK to teach children's yoga. She is a 500hr Level 3 qualified teacher at Ashram Yoga. PLAY (Physical Learning Active Yoga) combine's D's passion for yoga and working with children, sharing her effervescent energy with the younger generation!
Ramdas (Murray Dow)
Ramdas started Iyengar yoga to help prevent Rugby injuries at the age of 17 and has been practicing ever since. He started teaching in 1997, completed the Ashram Yoga teacher training and aside from a deep exploration of the inner self, has established a yoga school in New Jersey, USA. Ramdas is now back in NZ teaching and it is lovely to have him again at Ashram Yoga. Ramdas has also studied Ayurveda massage, Integrative yoga therapy, Reiki & Thai Yoga massage and offers sessions at Ashram Yoga's therapy room. He is the father to two beautiful children, and enjoys travelling and exploring cultures.

Luciana Camargo
Luciana's belief in the holistic approach to life has developed from her love towards Aromatherapy and Bodywork. After deepening her knowledge on these subjects, yoga was a natural addition to her skills. Having completed Ashram Yoga's Level 2 Teacher Training 200hr. She has totally dedicated her focus to ongoing learning, and sharing her passion for yoga and holistic living.
Premajyoti (Karen Butel)
Premajyoti attended her first yoga class ten years ago and since that time she has participated in many classes, courses and Ashram Yoga events. Initially engaging in advanced meditation courses, Premajyoti recently continued on to complete Ashram Yoga’s full Teacher Training and Yoga Nidra programs. As a practicing counsellor, she enjoys sharing and integrating her yoga knowledge and experience into her work and embraces yoga as an integral part of her lifestyle.
Nadine Simsar
Originally from France, New Zealand has been home for Nadine for the last 10 years. Nadine had a long time interest in yoga prior to completing Ashram Yoga’s Teacher Training Level 1 & 2, having discovered the benefits of yoga during pregnancy with her 3 children. She continues to be greatly interested in the practices of yoga and integrating them into her life. Teaching has been a radical change of career for Nadine and she loves the personal journey of yoga! She enjoys teaching and sharing her experiences and knowledge with others. Her other interests include sustainability, kite surfing and water skiing and anything active that brings her closer to nature and the sea!

Ashram Yoga was established in 1980 as Satyananda Ashram NZ Ltd with Swami Shantimurti Saraswati as senior teacher. For the past 17 years Shantimurti and Atma have worked ceaselessly for the development of yoga, both within NZ and overseas. They have been conducting teacher training since 1985 in New Zealand and more recently in the USA.
Ashram Yoga's unique teaching style is based on Paramahamsa Satyananda's innovative and progressive system, and also includes the senior instructor's 35 years experience of teaching yoga. A thorough and effective set of teachings has emerged from this. The range of practices we present are vast and taught from absolute beginners onwards.
