Testimonials:
I began CST (craniosacral therapy) sessions with Jeannie following several conversations about her kinesiology and CST work after yoga classes at our local gym. CST was something of a departure for me, as I have plenty of contact with conventional medicine without which – as an insulin-dependent diabetic – I would not have lived past my mid thirties. Sheer curiosity was undoubtedly one factor influencing my decision to give it a go, but I was also keen to sort out a persistent shoulder stiffness which yoga helped with but did not eliminate. The ambience in Jeannie’s small studio in Bishopdale is quiet, serene, and thoroughly professional. For CST to be effective the patient must have complete trust in the therapist. Jeannie made this trust very easy to develop, and one of the more tangible measures of her success is the extent to which I have learned to relax and accept where the therapy is taking us during each session. Suffice it to say that, after 18 months, these regular (usually four-weekly) visits have now become an important part of my life, and I always look forward to the next session. The results? The shoulder pain which was the original motivation for seeking treatment disappeared completely after a few visits, and has not troubled me since. I recall one session in particular, where Jeannie spent about half an hour very gently encouraging me to open my shoulder more and more fully, assuring me all the while that it was actually me doing the manipulation rather than her. On other occasions we focus on my neck and upper back, usually resulting in a marked easing of tension which may not develop until some hours afterwards but then continues for several days. Perhaps the most significant – and completely unanticipated – benefit, also after only a few sessions, was being able to stop taking the anti-depressants which I had been on for most of the last ten years. Discussing this during a recent visit I was startled to realise that I hadn’t even thought about the medication, let alone missed it, for over a year. I’m the first to acknowledge that I cannot unequivocally credit CST for getting on top of my depression: perhaps I might have managed it unaided. But perhaps not. To me, CST is not so much a treatment as a journey, in which the therapist and patient work together to help the body find ways to heal itself; I know that’s very much how Jeannie sees it. Don’t embark on a course of CST expecting it to solve all your problems. Instead, come along prepared to give as well as take, and to let your own body be your guide. You will find Jeannie an excellent travelling companion. Martin
I have been coming to see Jeannie for almost three and a half years now. I admit I was a skeptic before I made my first appointment after answering an add in the paper that said “are you stressed? Can’t sleep?” etc. Well at that stage in my life I was a mess and was trying to get out of a hole that seemed to be caving in on me. I wasn’t sleeping and was definitely stressed. I had debt piling up on me and an accountant giving me poor advice. I texted the number from the add and asked what Kinesiology was. Jeannie replied asking for my address to send some information to. I went along to my first session with an open mind and the decision that I would give it at least two sessions to see how it went. Well after the first session I had cleared some of the stuff out of my head and I started to make better decisions. In the three and a half years I have been seeing Jeannie I have turned my business around; I have money in the bank, investments and plans. I am also feeling much more confident and happy in myself. Your body never lies and you can’t fool this process and Jeannie is a great interpreter of what your body tells her. Alistair
In 2000 I had a serious Motor vehicle accident in which I suffered a head injury. One of the side affects of this was an inability to sleep which impacted on all facets of my life. Having exhausted medical solutions with only short term or no result and with no hope in sight I was told of Cranial sacral therapy. Jeanie has treated me with both Cranial Sacral therapy and kinesiology and although I find it hard understand the results have been amazing I am sleeping through the night and coping well with a busy family and work load Roger
I have been going to Jeannie off and on for about 3yrs. Jeannie has used her different skills on me for different ailments. I had a shoulder injury diagnosed by my Doctor and originally treated by a physio which was painful treatments with days of more soreness to follow and really no improvement . I decided to try Jeannie and within a very short time the shoulder was fine and has stayed that way. Over the last year Jeannie has helped me for anxiety attacks which were diagnosed again by my Doctor and the medical treatment available was anti-depressant pills and sleeping pills or he was not against alternative treatment such as Kinesiology so I went for the softly softly approach of Kinesiology. I am so glad I did with the skills Jeannie has taught me I have now come through the Christchurch earthquakes still holding together. Yes there are times when I have trouble sleeping or the body starts going into panic mode but most times I now have the skills to convince myself I can handle anything. The first thing I did after crawling out from under my desk after the Feb 22nd quake was take some of Jeannies homeapathic calming drops. As I was on the 6th floor of a Cashel street building I really called on all the skills Jeannie has empowered me with to remain calm to evacuate the building and eventually get home after a 3 hour trip which usually take 20mins. My 10 year old son has an Autistic Spectrum Disorder. He struggles with language and communication. For the last 7 months he has been to see Jeannie every fortnight for Craniosacral therapy. Initially, he probably sat still for 5 minutes now he now enjoys the full 30 minutes. He says the treatment makes his head "feel better". We have noticed significant differences. He is calmer, articulates his thoughts and we are now having longer conversations. At school he is more settled, interacts with his peers and thrives on exploring new experiences. Jeannie is a caring, calm, extremely knowledgeable and dedicated professional who adapts the sessions to suit our son's needs (meaning either sitting in a chair or lying on the bed). Nothing is ever a problem for Jeannie. She has also assisted with dietary advice which has proved successful. I believe that his time with Jeannie has made an enormous difference in his remarkable life, and we look forward to the future. I would be happy to discuss this further with any clients. Julie
For the past 5 years I have been suffering with continuous pain in my left arm and shoulder. I had visited many different Doctors trying to find out what was wrong with me, and trying all sorts of prescription drugs of which nothing seemed to be helping except making my life a misery. I was slowly gaining weight and I had also developed a hernia about 2 ½ years ago so I had problems doing any exercise, and I could only manage part time work. So life in general was pretty hopeless. I mentioned to my wife, it was time to look for something different. A couple of days later she told me that she had found someone that does Kinesiology, Craniosacral therapy etc. Now being your average kiwi bloke, I automatically said “What the hecks that??” So on to Google, still none of the wiser, so I said I’ll give her 2 or 3 sessions and if I don’t like I’ll try something else.
At my first session with Jeannie, we discussed all my medical problems in detail, she then explained what and how she works. After the session I said to my wife I don’t see this working but I’ll give it a couple more visits, but I doubt it. Well that was 8 months ago and with a visit nearly every week since, my life has totally changed. First she put me on to some natural supplements, then I weaned myself off the prescription drugs. She then suggested a change in eating habits, which I was happy to do. That alone saw me lose 13kg in the last 8 months. She then started to help me think more positively, and helped sort out some emotional problems I have been carrying around from my past. She encouraged me forget the past, live for today, and plan for the future. After a session with Jeannie applying Kinesiology, Craniosacial therapy and having some great discussion’s I leave her place feeling a lot happier and somehow different from when I arrived but always in a very good way. Quite often it would be the next day before I realised the improvements Jeannie had made, certain areas wouldn’t be so painful or I was getting better movement in my shoulder. To this day I can’t explain what she is doing but the end results have amazed me. When it was time for my hernia operation, my first operation in 45+ years, Jeannie spent the weeks leading up to the operation, giving me lots of positive encouragement. She would suggest different affirmations to repeat to myself, to help me build up confidence for the operation. After all this help I managed to have a fairly problem free operation and the following weeks in recovery. I think Jeannie has amazing skills with her hands. She will listen to everything you have to say. Nothing seems to be a problem to her. No matter how bad a problem seems to you, she seems to be able to find a positive angle to help you solve your difficulty. The more Jeannie was helping me, the more effort I was putting in to help myself, and of course the more I put in, the more Jeannie would help me. To me it became a TEAM effort. Kerry
About Jeannie:
Jeannie’s journey into natural health developed through a desire and passion to help other people after overcoming her own health issues using natural therapies. Jeannie grew up on a farm in the small South Canterbury town of Pleasant Point. After she left home she spent many years following one of her other passions, riding event horses competitively. She brought a small café when she was 21 years old, improved the business then sold when she was 23 years old to travel to Europe where she spent nearly 5 years riding and eventing horses professionally. On returning to New Zealand Jeannie decided she would like a career helping people so decided to study psychology at the University of Canterbury. Psychology gave Jeannie a great grounding on how the human mind works and many reasons people become unwell but Jeannie felt there was more to why people don’t have the optimal health and wellbeing they deserve which led her to study nutrition, homeobotanical therapy and kinesiology. Following this Jeannie decided she would like a form of body work to add to her practice so trained in craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, massage and muscularskeletal therapy both here and in Australia. Jeannie continues to keep up-to-date with the latest research and knowledge by regularly attending seminars, workshops and conferences both in New Zealand and overseas.
Today Jeannie feels very fortunate to have a great work/life balance where she thoroughly enjoys her role as a natural health practitioner and continues to have abundant energy to purse many leisure activities including horse riding, cycling, gym, yoga, running, swimming, skiing, water sports, reading and meditation.
