The Bowen Technique
“Everybody is better with Bowen”
Bowtech, the original Bowen Technique, was developed in the 1 950’s by the late Thomas Ambose Bowen in Geelong, Australia. Bowen’s unique system produces rapid and lasting relief from pain and discomfort, and is safe to use on anyone from a newborn child to the aged. Bowtech empowers the body to heal itself. The work consists of a series of gentle, precise moves on specific areas. It stimulates energy flow, which activates the body’s own resources for healing. Frequent and important pauses between moves gives the body time to respond and benefit from each move or series of moves.
The Bowen Technique is gentle, fast, effective treatment and should be considered for:
Back pain and sciatica
Neck/shoulder problems, frozen shoulder
Respiratory problems and hay fever
OOS/RSI, carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow
Knee, ankle and foot problems
Groin pain, pelvic tilt, uneven leg length
Digestive and bowel problems including irritable bowel syndrome
Heartburn
Headaches, migraines, earache, ear infections
Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome
Low energy
Menstrual and hormonal irregularities
Sports and accident injuries
Anxiety, breathing problems
Vision impairment, blocked tear ducts
Abdominal discomfort, spasms
Intestinal problems
Pain relief during pregnancy
Remedial Massage Treatment
Remedial massage treatment incorporating Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) techniques, is a holistic (whole body) specific approach to restore the structural, functional and postural balance to address the problem of pain. Advanced techniques will be applied through the use of massage, pressure therapy and other forms of body therapies. Multiple benefits may be achieved by improving nerve impulse transmission, lymphatic and blood circulation, heart rate, respiration, digestion and muscle tone.
Remedial massage using NMT assists with:
Removing causes of pain rather than dealing
with symptoms
Encouraging the body’s ability to self heal
More rapid and permanent recovery
Poor posture: postural self alignment and maintenance of good posture
Reduce/remove trigger points
Stress: at home/or work
Tension: headaches, clenched jaws
Weary muscles: from work or play
Overuse injuries: 005, tennis elbow
Emotional build-ups: from “muscle memory”
Back, neck and shoulder pain: whiplash, low back pain, frozen shoulder
Trauma: injuries, muscular strains and joint sprains
Stagnant circulation: oedema, congestion
Nerve impingement: sciatica, carpal tunnel
Makes Chiropractic easier: loosening tight muscles in the area of a spinal misalignment
Prevention of injuries
General health and wellness
The techniques may be applied with light or intense pressure. Superficial areas have to be released first. To gain full benefits, several treatments may be required. The number of, and length of time between massages is individual to suit your needs.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Lymphatic drainage massage can be an important part of a treatment plan where there are accumulations of lymph fluid in body tissues. Stimulation of lymph flow can also assist the body’s immune and protective functions. With increasing stress levels from busy lifestyles, a healthy lymphatic system is vital to general wellbeing.
Lymphatic drainage massage assists with:
Acute injury without infection, clearing excess swelling and inflammation around the injury site
Clearing of post operative swelling and regeneration of lymphatic tissue
Chronic oedema where swelling has been present for some time
Immobility—lengthy illness, strokes and paraplegia
Sinusitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis
l-taematoma
Skin health including acne and eczema
Migraine
Constipation
General health and immune systems
Improving appearance of tissues, feeling better in self, increasing movement function
Pregnancy Massage
During pregnancy massage sessions, all factors relating to each trimester and what is going on for you will be taken into account as to the massage techniques used to alleviate any aches, pains or other relative problems. A combination of therapeutic massage, holding techniques and pressure points will be used when and where appropriate. Your comfort throughout the whole session is paramount and feedback is encouraged.
Helpful exercises, stretches, breathing techniques for during pregnancy, labour and postnatal may be demonstrated, self help ideas for pain management, tiredness, oedema, etc, given. Your partner/birth helper may also be involved in a session. Written resources are also available.
